About us

This is a new project (Summer 2006) to assist the defence of the Catholic Church and morality in the United Kingdom.

Many organisations exist to defend morality in the areas of abortion and euthanasia. In addition to these, there are a number of Catholic news services, which draw attention to issues such as Catholic education, sacrilegious programming by British broadcasters, and so on.

The need we have identified is not to duplicate the research carried out by these organisations, but to bring selected parts of this flow of news to a wider public. The parts we aim to select are those about which ordinary citizens can do something, usually by making a written protest (or note of encouragement). Once we have 'posted' on a news item, it becomes far more easily accessible for searches (through Google or the blog search box in the top left-hand corner) than most of our sources' archives are.

This is not a hopeless cause! The BBC's 'Popetown' cartoon series, which ridiculed the Holy See, was not broadcast, as a result of public outcry. An advertising campaign for the 'morning after' pill, with the slogan 'Immaculate Conception?', was withdrawn, following 185 complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority. The threat to force Catholic schools to admit 25% non-Catholic pupils, and the 'Joffe' euthanasia bill, were both defeated in Parliament thanks to lobbying by Catholics. Where similar protests have failed, it is usually because there were not enough of them.

The interest of this site is Catholic: the defence of the Catholic Church, and morality as understood by the Catholic Church. Most issues we are concerned about fall under three broad headings:
1. The actions of the British state and its organs, and the European Union, in relation to abortion, contraception, medical research on human stem cells, euthanasia, and education.
2. The activities of private persons and firms in insulting God, the person of Jesus Christ, His saints and His Church.
3. The activities of Catholic priests and bishops, who need our support, and if necessary criticism, in their response to the crisis of morality in society, and in their government of the Church.

We are happy to collaborate with non-Catholic groups to further these goals, and non-Catholics are welcome to join our mailing list if they share our aims.

Pope Leo XIII's Prayer to St Michael

Holy Michael, Archangel, defend us in the day of battle. Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust down to Hell Satan, and all wicked spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen
