Holy Days of Obligation

Update: the petition has been sent to Rome, with 3008 entries (representing a greater number of people). Nearly 10% of this is represented by the online version; the rest was collected manually. Congratulations to Miss Vaughan-Spruce for her campaign, which Catholic Action UK was proud to support. Details of any official response will be posted here in due course.

"According to the Catholic Herald's Rome correspondent, Edward Penna, the Vatican is encouraging anyone opposed to changes to the Holy Days of Obligation to make their case directly to Rome. 'Such criticism needs to be taken seriously, so it would be a help for such complaints to be made directly to the Holy See', said one official, speaking anonymously. Objections should be sent to the Congregation for Bishops." CFNews

Letter to the Catholic Herald (Aug 11 2006), from Mr Frank Swarbrick: '... The Catholic Union of Great Britain, that most respected group of faithful Catholics, should be applauded for considering "an appeal" against the bishops' decision. Many ordinary Catholics are looking for somebody to take a lead. May we now hope that the Catholic Union will be at the forefront of this discussion and we shall have the opportunity to speak.'

Pope Leo XIII's Prayer to St Michael

Holy Michael, Archangel, defend us in the day of battle. Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust down to Hell Satan, and all wicked spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen
