The Holocaust and abortion

Briefing. Comparing the Shoah with anything else infuriates some people: they seem not to so much wish to ensure that it never happens again, as to ensure that its lesson cannot be applied to anything else. Bishop Mixa of Augsburg has got into trouble over this:

Mixa was a guest speaker on the theme "Values and Ethics in Politics" at an event organized by the Dinkelsbühl CSU, when he brought the two issues together. In an allusion to the debate about the SSPX Mixa stressed that the Holocaust on the scale of six million deaths had certainly taken place. The Bishop of Augsburg, adding that this figure had already been exceeded by the number of abortions.

Hat-tip and more of the news report from Cathcon.

A somewhat different but also very pertinent point is made by Fr Z:

I am reading stories that "the Vatican" has "rejected" Williamson’s recently issued apology.

I don’t think that any apology SSPX Bp. Williamson may issue about his views on the Holocaust will ever be enough for certain groups, both of Jews and within the Church.  They may have crafted this in such a way that they know he will not do it.

But whatever else may happen with Bp. Williamson, will unambiguous apologies be required now from the more avid pro-abortion Catholic politicians?

If there are concerns that someone would deny that 6 million Jews were killed in
WWII, and apologies are demanded from such a person, is there going to be equal concern over those who promote or participate in a far more extensive killing of the innocent?

Will Catholic pro-abortion politicians be required to issue apologies, as unambiguous as that which they require from Williamson… heck
any apology at all…. for voting for abortion rights?

I’m just askin’

Fr Lombardi should consider this...
It's not Jews and other certain groups within the Church who have rejected the apology it's the Vatican. That's enough for me and it should be enough for you. All this clown has to do offer a sincere apology and retract his shocking comments but he can't even manage that. The reason...He's a convinced Nazi! If you stepped outside your little internet bubble of like minded catholics for 5 seconds you'd see how much damage this mock bishop is doing.
You are always so quick to attack the Catholic Peace movement and Social justice groups as lefties. Yet here you are going easy on this idiot. Shame on you

Have you all lost your minds and your very souls? Why is this poor man being drug through the dirt ad persecuted for his opinion, which he can back up with actual facts and information? When did the jewish religious leaders start running the church? You need to read and see how their "holy book" describes Jesus in such a foul and crude manner that I can not even repeat the ugly horrific words used. Why is that not being questioned::":

I see the Vatican has already passed their own speech restrictions -- most likely dictated by their jewish leaders. You should be ashamed how you conducting yourselves. How ugly and so unlike Jesus you are acting toward the Bishop. I hope he stands strong because Jesus, God, The Holy Spirit are with him and I pray for him.

Re the first 'anonymous', if you think we are going 'easy' on Williamson I suggest you read the other posts about him.

Re the other two, there is a genuine problem here. Some beliefs, though sincerely held and not directly about the truths of faith, are so closely associated with moral positions that they cannot easily be separated from them. Bishop Williamson must maintain his intellectual honesty, but also recognise that the only people sharing his views on the Shoah are vile anti-semites, and that it's not a coincidence.

The Church does not need Williamson - I will be kind and say he is a nutter. What is worse is that SSPX took no action against him until they were pushed by the Vatican. This says a lot about SSPX leadership. God forbid that they are allowed back into the Church with any form of self governance. They are more a cult that a Church. They must change a lot before they will even be accepted by the majority of Catholics. I hope that when they do return to the fold, the priests and seminarians are distributed around the world under the supervision and control of diocesan bishops. As for the SSPX bishops, I have no idea what use they would be..............

'The Church doesn't need Williamson': what a bizarre remark. The Church needs no-one. But she is commissioned to make disciples of all. Williamson needs the Church, and the Good Shepherd does not abandon the lost sheep but seeks after it.

As for the future status of the SSPX, I have confidence in the Holy Father's charity and common sense to come up with a sensible solution.

Do you?

I mean the Church does not need Williamson as a priest. He certainly need the Church.

Although I have always been a supporter of Pole Benedict, the whole SSPX/Williamson affair has been a fiasco, so my confidence is sadly reduced. I live in hope that it will be restored.

Pope Leo XIII's Prayer to St Michael

Holy Michael, Archangel, defend us in the day of battle. Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust down to Hell Satan, and all wicked spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen
