SSPX full reconciliation to be soon

Comment: the blizzard of inaccurate rumours preceeding the Motu Proprio 18 months ago made us grateful that we usually don't report rumours, but at this moment anything seems possible, and this report has some credibility. Furthermore the serious possibility that the SSPX could suddenly be reconciled by a stunning papal act is one we need to get used to. For twenty years and more conservatives and not a few non-SSPX traditionalists have been defining themselves by reference to the SSPX (as in 'Of course, we totally reject the SSPX') and liberals have been using it as a tar-brush (as in 'That makes you sound like the SSPX'). Everyone must rediscover their Christian charity - fast.

From Rorate Caeli, in part, quoting from La Stampa: "The date is near. " The X-hour for reintegrating the entire Lefebvrist galaxy inside the Church should have been tomorrow, Feast of the Purification of Mary.

The controversy on the relationship with Judaism has slowed down the race against time in the Sacred Palaces, but, despite "the internal resistance and the external attacks", the strategy, in the Vatican [Oltretevere: across the Tiber] is that of proceeding in firm steps towards full communion.

Liberals, from Cardinal Re (if reports are accurate) to Robert Mickens, Rome correspondant for The Tablet, are going into a tail-spin of rage and grief. Well, boys and girls, after 40 years of ruthless persecution of theological conservatism (including, for example, anyone wishing to take Canon law's liturgical strictures seriously) the boot is now on the other foot. But no one is going to persecute them: they are simply not going to be unable to stamp on everyone else's sandcastles.

Pope Leo XIII's Prayer to St Michael

Holy Michael, Archangel, defend us in the day of battle. Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust down to Hell Satan, and all wicked spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen
