The appalling 'livesimply' website, whcih tries to get Catholic parishes and other organisations to focus on installing low-energy light bulbs instead of abortion, the family, and spirituality, allows people to make 'promises' and invite other people to sign up to them. The promises page displays the the glib and vacuus 'promises' of people who have fallen in with the livesimply agenda: 'buying Fair Trade chocolate', 'Turning the light off before I leave the room', 'Wear another layer instead of turning up the heating' etc. etc.. These are set up to be 'successful' if a handful of people (often three or five) sign up. However, James Preece has put up a promise with some genuine Catholic content:
"I will LiveChastely but I want 1,000 other people to join me."
Already 137 people have signed up; the success of this 'promise' will demonstrate that there are still Catholics out there who have a real interest in the Faith, and that they are actually much more active and committed than the ones who are concerned solely with Fairtrade chocolate.
