New outrage at Westminster 'gay Mass'

Action please: the 'pastoral care' given to vulnerable young homosexual Catholics by the Archdiocese of Westminster has apparantly been delegated to the 'Soho Masses Pastoral Council' who take them to a gay bar before Mass. Please protest to Cardinal Murphy-O'Connor and Cardinal Levada and others - see below.

The Soho Masses Pastoral Council (see our dossier on this group) recently announced that it is forming a younger people's group. A newsletter was given out at the Soho Mass, which said:-

"Soho Masses Younger People's Group invites you to their first gathering, 5th October, 13.30pm. Meeting in front of Thistle Hotel, Charing Cross Station; from there to the Retro Bar and ending up for the 1st Sunday 17.00pm Mass at Warwick Street. The group provides an opportunity to meet and socialise with other younger people part of, or visiting the Soho Masses. Further details - info@sohomasses.com"

An internet search shows that the "Retro Bar" in Charing Cross, mentioned in the SMPC leaflet, is listed as a "gay bar". The diocese states that the Masses run by this group are "part of the diocese of Westminster's pastoral provision for LGBT Catholics, parents and families", so it would appear that Westminster believes that it is good pastoral practice for young homosexual people to be taken to gay bars before going to Mass and receiving Holy Communion.

Complaints please, to

Thanks for alerting people to this. Everyone quite rightly got worked up about the Oratory/YouTube and other recent desecrations of the Blessed Sacrament, and yet this sacrilege is routinely taking place under our noses but it seems that hardly anyone does anything to try and stop it. Come on everybody - especially all you priest-bloggers out there - start protesting!

Well said, Pat! Remember what is happening here:

The laity are being encouraged to receive sacrilegious communions.

They are being encouraged to live a sinful life which will lead them to unhappiness and quite probably an early death.

The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is being used as a platform to undermine the teaching and discipline of the Church.

What about this situation is not important enough to get worked up about?

Many of us who work with LGBT people know how much they are hurt by over zealous Catholic and extreme Protestant opinion.

God is all powerful, and will not be harmed by a few folk in need of companionship and support meeting before Mass. We need not protect him by wrapping him up like a parcel in case he gets hurt.

There are many examples in the Gospels of Jesus condemning the so called righteous Religious of his day who got over excited by his acts of kindness and charity.

If you'd bothered to read the post, 'Anonymous', you'd realise that our concern is actually focused on the welfare of the young Catholics involved.

The insult to God is worth mentioning, though, isn't it?

Hercules, I did read the post, and I fail to see how God is being insulted by a few folk meeting in a Pub before Mass. So the pub in question happens to be labelled as a "gay pub". That this fairly innocent activity is seen as undermining catholic teaching, and as an encouragement to receive sacriligious Communions is to my mind somewhat over the top.

Well, Anonymous, it seems you haven't even read my comment. Would capitals help?

WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE YOUNG PEOPLE, NOT JUST ABOUT THE INSULT TO GOD (WHICH YOU BROUGHT UP).

Clear now?

I hardly think that "shouting" makes your position any clearer at all! It is to my mind confused theology.

Young people are often frightened, especially when their sexuality is perceived by them not to be the norm. It is this fear, coupled with youth, which leads to dangerous sexual experimentation. These young people need support and friendship. They need to know that they are loved by God who has made them, you and I in his image.

It was you who spoke of sacriligious communions etc.

Can you read or not??

I give up!

And if you think what these young people need is the 'support' and 'friendship' of the RCCGLCM then either you don't know much about them (try reading our dossier on them) or your theology is as confused as theirs is.

They need the support and friendship of people who are informed with the Church's teaching on sexuality. That is what the Archdiocese should be offering them. And that is the end of the matter.

Pope Leo XIII's Prayer to St Michael

Holy Michael, Archangel, defend us in the day of battle. Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust down to Hell Satan, and all wicked spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen
